The Matrix Standard

The matrix quality standard for Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Services

The matrix Standard is a national standard developed by the DfES and the Guidance Council in consultation with IAG providers from a range of sectors, including higher education.

The matrix Standard is designed to assist services identify and follow best practice in the delivery of IAG. It defines the outcomes of a quality service whose aim is assisting individuals to make use of information, explore issues and plan courses of action in relation to learning and work. The Standard focuses on key activities relating to the delivery of the service and its effective management.
In brief, the matrix Standard is:
- a framework for the development of quality systems within the field of IAG; - proof, when linked to external accreditation, of delivering a quality service to individuals; - a self-assessment tool to encourage continuous quality improvement (CQI) with staff competence and feedback from clients and staff at its core.
