FAQs

Q: I live in Lower Earley. Am I eligible to use the services of WJSC?

A: Yes. Despite its proximity to Reading, Earley is within the boundaries of Wokingham Borough and anyone who lives there is eligible to use the service. So too are residents of Arborfield, Barkham, Charvil, Finchampstead, Hurst, Remenham, Ruscombe, Shinfield, Sonning, Swallowfield, Twyford, Wargrave, Winnersh, Wokingham, Wokingham Without and Woodley.

Q: Is the service entirely free?

A: Yes. Thanks to Wokingham Borough Council and other generous local donors we are able to offer all our services free.

Q: I have received formal notice of redundancy. To avoid delay in getting back to work, can I have access to your services immediately or must I wait until after registering with the Jobcentre Plus?

A: We will be happy to register you and allow access to our services providing you can demonstrate that you are actively seeking new employment.

Q: I am in work but looking for something different. Can I use your services to help in my search for a new job?

A: As above, we will be happy to register you and allow access to our services providing you can demonstrate that you are actively seeking new employment.

Q: I have been unemployed for some time now and have only just found out about your service. Can I still register to use the service?

A: Although our primary target groups are the recently unemployed and those returning to work after a break in employment, we should be pleased to try to help you. If we are not able to help you directly, we would hope to be able to refer you to a local organisation better able to help you.

Q: Is there any limit on the time I can use the service?

A: We are open from 10 am to 2 pm Monday to Friday and once you have registered you can use the service as often as you like for six months from the day you register.
We hope you will obtain work before your six months membership expires but, for any client who has not found work after five months, we will review the situation with a view to helping the client decide how best to proceed. An extension of membership beyond six months will be considered where it would seem to be of benefit to the client.

Q: I have just left school and am looking for a job. Can you help me?

A: Connexions provides a service more suited to the needs of job seekers under 20 years of age.
