The range of free and confidential services we offer includes:
A network of six modern computer workstations all equipped with comprehensive up-to-date office software and offering high speed Internet access allows clients to visit websites offering job search opportunities and carry out research relevant to their job search. Word processing facilities to produce a cv or write a letter.
Birchin Lane: a database of jobs in the South East, which is updated every day. It can be selectively searched for jobs that match the user's specification. For a taste of what is on offer from Birchin Lane visit the Local Jobs page on the website of nextstep Berkshire. Note that the full database available at our offices gives access to very many more jobs across the whole of the South East.
Adult Directions: an interactive computer system for helping clients explore different types of work.
Keynotes: an interactive computer system that offers clients information in a range of leaflets covering a range of topics including: career choice; education and training; employment and job seeking; dealing with unemployment; rights; and information for particular groups of job seeker. Each leaflet can be read on screen or printed off.
Local and national newspapers and journals.
An extensive library of books to help in the job search provided with funding from nextstep Berkshire.

Stationery and postage.
Information about other support agencies, specialist help and training. For example, executive job seekers living in the Thames Valley who are over 45 might be referred to Know-How Works, a website sponsored by the Branshaw Foundation that specialises in providing on-line help to this group.
From time-to-time and where it does not detract from our service to existing clients, we provide outreach services, often in collaboration with local nextstep partners.
